Hire Terms


It is vital that vehicles are brought back on time. The hire period ends at 8am. We are always happy to extend the hire if we can, but the hirer must ring before the hire ends.


Hirer’s must have held a full licence for at least 12 months. For minibus rentals hirers must have passed their test prior to January 1997 or hold the relevant categories on their license.. Please check all endorsements with our office when booking as some endorsements are not acceptable. If you hold a UK driving licence we will require a copy of the photocard plus either your national insurance number or DVLA check code to conduct an online licence check prior to your arrival.


In general we do accept foreign licences, however there are circumstances where a UK (or valid EU) driving license is required by UK law. Please see the Direct.gov website for more details on driving in the UK with a foreign license. One other consideration we do require is that we will not be able to validate the licence if it is not readable by an English speaking member of staff – for example licences that use only non-western characters may not be accepted if they do not have data that can be easily understood by anyone. Please contact us in advance for clarification and confirmation of eligibility.


We accept drivers aged 25-72yrs with a clean licence. If you are 21-24, 73-80 or have certain endorsements it may still be possible to hire if arranged prior to pick up. Please call the Carquest office on +44(0)1444 471289 or via e-mail info@carquestrentals.com


The vehicle will be delivered with a full tank of fuel on collection and you may return the vehicle empty at the end of the hire unless agreed otherwise. The cost of fuel will be charged at pump prices.


We make every effort to supply the vehicle ordered, or an acceptable substitute at the time, but cannot accept liability for the consequences of our failure to do so.


Fully comprehensive insurance is included for you through IR&CM Ltd in the quotations (unless specifically stated otherwise). The hirer is always responsible for up to their excess amount on any damage unless covered by CDW (Extra cover). We require all drivers to fill out a form upon pick up and show their driver’s licence. A charge of £2.50 per day is applied for any additional drivers. Negligent damage is not covered under the terms of the insurance i.e., interior, tyres (caused by bad driving); overhead/roof damage is also not covered. Failure to abide by the terms and conditions of each hire may revoke the insurance cover and thus make the hirer fully liable.


Will be required besides the licence, credit cards alone are not acceptable as a form of ID. Identification showing the hirer/driver’s current name and address is required. For hirers arriving from overseas we will need to see your passport.


We always prefer payment by credit/debit card. We accept: Visa, MasterCard, Delta, Solo, Visa Electron (not for deposits) and Amex. Note: there is an extra 4% surcharge on Amex cards to cover extra costs. We do accept cash for payments but not deposits. Cheque’s are no longer accepted for payment. For airport collections we will take a £50.00 non refundable reservation amount on booking with the remaining balance plus any deposit/ excess amount debited from the card details provided 2-3 working days prior to your arrival date. If the payee is not to be present on collection they will of needed to complete a “credit card authorisation form” prior to the vehicle being delivered.


Meet & Greet at Heathrow or Gatwick. We actually meet you at the terminal, help with baggage and take you to the car to complete the prepared paperwork. From there you may drive away directly from the airport. Please note an additional charge of £20.00 would be applied to the hire cost where the flight arrival time is between 22.00-05.30. On return we ask you to return the vehicle to a pre-arranged car park for which directions will be given on arrival. Please note: for customers flying out of terminals 4& 5 at Heathrow there is a £5.00 charge per passenger for the shuttle bus to the terminal. If returning to terminals 1,2 & 3 the shuttle bus service is free. Please be aware that on collection we require you as the hirer to cover the cost of the short term car park on arrival.


All vehicles have full breakdown and recovery assistance inclusive within the rental cost.


At most branches vehicles can be dropped off out of hours, please speak to the branch in question. For customers returning directly to the airport, instructions and directions will be given on collection.


Additional drivers are charged at £2.50 per day up to a maximum charge of £75.00


Trips to Europe are easy to arrange, an additional charge of £25.00 per day is applied. European breakdown cover can be provided, please e-mail info@carquestrentals.com for a quotation.


Hirer’s are responsible for daily checks on oil, water, tyres and lights.
